Update: 174 Pilot Valley Wild (or feral) Horses Gathered By BLM…

Posted by Texas Mustang Project on July 7, 2010

Jill Starr has organized a rather comprehensive rescue effort for the 174 Pilot Valley horses that BLM rounded up late last month and turned over to the Nevada Department of Agriculture to sell off at a livestock sale in Fallon on July 10th.

Advocates are concerned that these horses were not privately owned as BLM is claiming, but actually may have strayed off one of the nearby BLM wild horse herd areas and therefore should be protected from going to the kill buyers.  Starr’s Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue, with assistance from several other organizations, will bid against the kill buyers for these horses and Lifesavers has a local facility ready to receive them.

This effort is not intended to exclude any qualified and caring private individuals from acquiring some of these horses.

Complete details are posted in the Alliance of Wild Horse Advocates’ War Room at –

JILL STARR, BLESS YOU FOR WHAT YOU ARE DOING FOR THE HORSES. I HAVE ALWAYS FELT THAT THE BLM PULLED A FAST ONE HERE. THE DEPT OF AG HAS SHOWN UP QUITE OFTEN OVER THE YEARS IN THINGS THE BLM DOES. THANKS FOR ALL OF THE WONDERFUL HORSE PEOPLE WHO ARE WORKING TOGETHER. PLEASE CARRY OUT A COMPLETE INVESTIGATION ON THIS ENTRIE TRICK.

I would have to agree..wild horse advocates are THE most amazing selfless group of people I have ever seen, and have renewed my faith in mankind..somewhat.

I had also wondered if there were Reservations in this area..seems highly unlikely 175 horses were strays. The nevada dept. of Ag. sounds like an arm of the mafia

Apparently these horses come from the toana HMA, a HA the BLM tried to zero out in 93..the same amount of horses.

The BLM just gets dirtier all the time

Just my obsevation..but this kind of decision is made at a more local level..not at the Salazar level..Maybe we should not be so generous in our lack of critisism for these folks..and I would like the names of those BLM personel involved at this level so we can more closely examine their motives.

I just saw an ABC news article that says all the horses were saved-yay!!! Great job! I’m new to this site, but if anyone knows of any wild horses in dire straits (immediate death, etc.), I can “foster” a few on my land. I have 10 acres w/chickens, 2 worthless 🙂 but loved donkeys and 2 rescued thoroughbreds (who I’ve owned for 10+ years). I honestly didn’t know the BLM was still pulling this shit-makes me sick. Thanks to all who work to save these priceless animals!
