Wild Sex In Nevada Leads To Free Birth Control

By Morris Workman Posting Date: 07-01-2010

For years, the debate has raged across the country:

Should the federal government be involved in providing birth control?

The sub-arguments are varied and heated.

There have been discussions in the U.S. about providing condoms to school children, an idea which would actually be pretty funny.

If you’ve been around a fifth-grader lately, then you know that any shipment of prophylactics to the classroom will quickly be transformed into a miniature zoo filled with balloon animals.

Sex education continues to be fodder for the funniest jokes, puns, and double entendres among middle schoolers, that is until they score their first bootleg DVD of Lewis Black.

Abortion continues to be one of the most contentious issues dividing the country.

On one side, the young pro-choice advocates insist that a woman should be allowed the right to choose what they can do with their own bodies.

And to show how responsible they can be with such decisions, those male and female advocates go right out and get tattoos, tramp stamps, body brandings, tongue piercings, tongue splittings, nipple rings, Marilyn Monroe studs in their face, nose rings, cheek piercings, gauged ear lobes, and jewelry piercings in the most intimate of locations to prove their point.

On the other side, the pro-life crowd continues to insist that all life is precious, and they’re willing to continue killing abortion clinic doctors until America gets the message.

Then you have “the pill” and pregnancy-preventing injections, and the ongoing battle over whether the federal government should be allowed to provide these forms of birth control for free to those who can’t otherwise afford them.

Finally, the United States government has reached a momentous decision on free birth control.

A recent announcement confirms that Uncle Sam is now providing free anti-pregnancy injections to a group that consistently has no money and no way of paying for such contraceptives.

In a decidedly un-politically correct stance; the gub’ment is making no attempt to hide the fact that they are doing it because they are tired of caring for the offspring of reckless females with no self-control, who have sex with a variety of partners without taking any precautions, and who frequently continue to birth more and more young ‘uns in spite of the fact that they can’t provide enough food for all of them.

And the feds are stepping up with their new birth control program right here in the Silver State, claiming the problem is rampant in Nevada.

It’s a controversial idea, but to their credit, the feds are making the injections available to anyone regardless of color, creed, breed, or religion.

In fact, the only requirements are that the recipient must be homeless, and must be a horse.

That’s right, a horse.

Our office received a press release from the Bureau of Land Management last week announcing another roundup of wild horses to be held around the Elko area.

As part of the roundup, according to the BLM’s e-mail, the female horses will be injected with Porcine Zona Pellucida, or PZP-22, a fertility control vaccine.

It’s like Depo Provera for horsies.

It’s the BLM’s answer to the never-ending roundups they’re forced to conduct every year because recreational procreation seems to be the only habit these equine high plains drifters seem to have mastered.

While it’s a decidedly progressive move to provide free contraceptive inoculations, the program is still fraught with antiquated male-dominated thinking, as another part of the project includes a plan to thin the horse herds to a mix of 60% males and 40% females.

It’s almost as if they’re blaming the females for the pregnancy and overpopulation problems, while continuing to heap testosterone-laced accolades on the males with favorable labels like “stud.”

I’m not sure how I feel about the federal government providing free birth control.

Or the idea that they’re willing to do something for animals that they won’t do for humans.

But I’m  glad to see that the disco era, the days of “free love,” and federally-assisted sex without consequences have finally reached the horse world.

A few moments of mirth in an otherwise tragic situation. Yes, I enjoyed it. However – a note of caution. The girls do choose who they mate with, but it’s not countless partners, it’s usually one guy who had to fight for the right to “party.” And BLM’s past intervention has resulted in weird twisted relationships such an incest on a ridiculous scale. Yes, we have that going on in Nevada too by government design! Seriousely, the population statistics are seriously flawed because the BLM doesn’t actually count them, even the lateest proposal is a big guess, and from advocate aerial studies with photos for proof there may be a lot fewer horses than BLM thinks. At any rate starving horses are at present a myth except when horses are deliberately cut off from water.

    • The situation to which Mr. Workman is referring is the 60/40 ratio… No, she won’t have much chance of choosing who she mates with if she is overpowered by too many. We discussed this in an earlier post’s comments. Yea, they’ll fight, but once one is done, it’s the next one’s turn. This behavior has been witnessed time and again at gather releases. The studs that are released are usually the younger ones who are not mature mentally to know better.
Yes, I think we can all agree that the counts, the available forage and water are all skewed at best. The impression that I got from Mr. Workman was one of absolute sarcasm towards the situation at hand, and in my own humble opinion was well deserved.

Oh, and one more thing that Mr. Workman seems to have missed. “Gathered” males are all castrated, except those pre-selected for adoption.

    • No, gathered and *released* males are not yet castrated when they are released. Hopefully, this will not be a statement that is proven otherwise any time in the near future.

I guess that I am just refering to the Calico “gather,” because it still touches me deeply, and there is no other new reference in which to gage BLM’s new policy. At Calico BLM claimed they were going to gather a certain number of horses and then release some back. They couldn’t find that many, so they brought in what they could and claimed there were still 500 – 900 (?) left. People can’t find but a tiny fraction of those numbers. All Calico horses rounded up – males – except a handful preselected for adoption have been castrated. And yes, it doesn’t look like they intend to put any back. But BLM has mentioned “repopulating” some zeroed out areas with castrated males now in long term storage (holding). Considering, it is possible that some of the Calico group could be returned in that condition. In order to have a policy doesn’t one have to adhere to it? I believe that when BLM says 40 – 60 that most of the males are not going to be intact.

The BLM has quietly been releasing gelded studs in Oregon, the only state so far..apparently this state was the only one to agree to do so..however after our comments were received on the Stinkingwater HMA..they recinded that decision there.

The reasons I have re-posted these articles and the article following this post are very simple.
“We need a solution to too many wild horses” was to show all of us what exactly the “mentality” and mindset of the ones who are not in support of our plight is currently. YES, we have to comment on all of these EAs. Why would we not want to have all the information possible to be the most effective with our comments?
“We’re still throwing horses overboard” – I think the content and name of this article is pretty self-explanatory as to why I re-posting it especially in light of the several EAs and PEAs we are currently needing comments on.
“Utah vs. the United States of America: The Beehive state challenges the feds” and “What about Watt?” are for informational purposes with possible ideas for possible solutions.
I’m just trying to give everyone some of the resources that I am currently using to form my own personal comments and opinions on these next few months of commenting, but at the same trying not to lose sight of still trying to come up with some sort of viable solution to this whole mess.
And of course, the re-posting of “Wild Sex in Nevada Leads to Free Birth Control” was just too much of a good punch line to pass up. While we are all so stressed out and ready to scream at the top of our lungs from the workloads we are carrying, a little bit of comic relief is absolutely necessary to maintain some sort of sanity!
Step back for a minute, take a breath, get a good laugh at the puns and irony, un-cross your eyes from staring at the computer screen for too long, and come back to the task at hand refreshed and with your best foot forward. We have no choice in the matter. We have to be as effective and efficient as we possibly can be at this point in time. We have no room for error. But we also cannot expect ourselves to perform to this high standard without taking care of ourselves mentally at the same time.
Hope that you all are safe and dry. Don’t forget to breath.

TRACIE, ARE YOU IN A SAFE PART OF TEXAS–AWAY FROM HURRICANES?

    • Yes and no… The hurricane (Alex) is actually hitting the Southern part of Texas, so in that respect – yes, I am safe from it. However, I live in Southeast Texas which is to the East of Alex, so in this respect – no, I am not so much “safe” from it. The rain bands that are “thrown” off of the hurricanes are always on the East side. Even with Alex being that far away from us geographically, the rain we’ve received in the past week is phenomenal – a little over 2.5 inches! This comes after a total of about 5 inches over the past month and a half so needless we’re not all that upset about it. However, the lack of rain over that long of a period of time mixed with the surplus of rain in just one week has led to some serious flooding in some areas. LOL my pastures look like big huge lakes! Thankfully, the cows and horses are in the high pastures and aren’t too water-logged! 🙂

  5. Birth control addresses the symptom – the issue of increasing populations in a sparse region where resources are being quietly slipped away. And it is probably less costly and less intrusive than the present “trap and toss” approach to wild horse management.

But at some point we have to address one of the diseases, the water issue. Nevada’s primeval water laws put nearly all of Nevada’s limited water resources in private hands through water rights allocations. The BLM can have millions of acres of grass, but without water it is useless to horses. Decades ago BLM didn’t assert any water rights on our public lands so now it all belongs to ranchers, mineral companies and speculators who intend to cap it and pipe it at a profit to urban areas. Water is gold here in the driest state in the country.

As the old saying goes, if you can’t make sense of something, follow the money. Controlling water is big money. Horses aren’t. You guess who will win.

I JUST LISTENED TO A LAWYER(RADIO INTERVIEW)WHO HAS SUED FDA SEVEN TIMES AND HAS WON ALL OF THE CASES. HE WAS UP AGAINST BIG PHARMA MONEY. THIS LAWYER IS VERY STRONG ON CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND VERY MUCH OPPOSED TO ABUSES OF POWER THAT HE SEES IN GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES. HE MAINTAINS THAT THESE AGENCIES HAVE FAR TOO MUCH POWER AND THAT IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHICH PRESIDENT IS IN OFFICE.

At the moment I only have one eye. Maybe it’s why I can’t catch a repost. Just had surgery for Macular Hole,” and hope to save it’s vision. In any case I am doing all of my writing starring down at the key board and can only see the screen briefly. So hope this is spelled right.
